Katherine’s Loves

I live for my next concert.

I love live music more than almost anything else in the world. Although it’s a lot about the music, it’s not JUST about the music for me. It’s the interaction you have with the performer no matter where your seats are. It’s being brought together with fourteen thousand of your closest friends by a few lyrics and a melody. It’s being immersed in a sea of thousands of lighters (or phones) during a slow song. For me, it’s my high. It’s my church.    It’s about being there when the performers fulfill[...]

“Be courageous and be brave, and in my heart you’ll always stay forever young.” -Sir Rod Stewart

A couple years ago by a random stroke of luck, I met and later worked for Rod Stewart. He picked me out of the crowd of 80,000 at New Orleans Jazz Fest and invited my friend and me backstage. We met him, his band, and his family over a glass of wine (we turned down tequila shots). I was completely freaking out, but my friend had enough forethought to hand Rod one of my business cards and explain that I was a graphic designer. I will never forget the moment he turned to me and said, “I need cover art for my new album. W[...]

Breed All About It!

For those of you who follow me on social media, you might have noticed that I have not been painting nearly as much as I normally do in the last couple of months. I’ve been working on a new painting project and chose to keep it under wraps until a certain amount of it was completed. Well, today is the day! May I present…  Drum roll please…  BREED ALL ABOUT IT! Breed All About It, a series of approximately 60 small paintings, will capture the essence of dog breeds through portraiture. Each painting will be a disp[...]

Saving the Mountain Gorillas with Ellen Degeneres

As some of you know, I’m a huge Ellen Degeneres fan. Not only are we both from the same city, but we are both avid animal lovers. It is literally one of my ultimate life goals to meet her one day and work with her on a project or two. Ellen has the reputation as being one of the kindest celebrities out there, and she does a ton of work with animal rescue all over the nation. Like mine, all of her pets are rescues, and you can tell from her social media posts that they are as much her family as her two-footed family (which[...]

Bucket List/Goals

As this year comes to a close (yes, it's already November), I realize that it's time to update my bucket list/life goals. I've been lucky enough to check several items off in the last couple years, and there are new ones to add. I figure since my 30th birthday is fast approaching, now is the perfect time to dream big and set a few goals.  Without further ado, I give you my bucket list/goals: Go to the Ellen Show: This is something I've ALWAYS wanted to do and haven't gotten the opportunity yet. With all the drama an[...]

Clothing for EVERYONE: Classy Little Fashions

Any of you Facebookers know that there is a Facebook group for everything, and Osteogensis Imperfecta is no different. There are several out there, some for the different types, some with a focus on fitness, some with age restrictions, etc. I belong to several, and sometimes it's nice to talk to people who go through the same social and chronic pain issues that I do. There are moments where I disagree with the way some members manage their pain, but to each is own and how they handle their bodies is really none of my busines[...]

Sugarlanding

“Some believe in destiny and some believe in fate, but I believe that happiness is something we create.” -Something More, Sugarland In 2009, I talked my aunt into braving the heat and the crowds to see an up and coming band called Sugarland at Jazz Fest. The duo had a few songs out on the radio, and I thought they were pretty good. Little did I know exactly how good they were and how much my life was about to change because of them.  I knew five minutes in that I was hooked. Jennifer Nettles literally has the vo[...]

Working with Rod

"Be courageous and be brave, and in my heart, you'll always remain forever young." -Sir Rod Stewart As many of you who follow my blogs and Facebook posts have seen, my friend, Christy, and I have had some pretty amazing experiences at concerts all over the country. We've had a private meet and greet with Reba, a conversation with Harry Connick Jr., and been front row for Fleetwood Mac. We've played blackjack with the Cadillac Three, and Florida Georgia Line has stopped an entire concert to give me a signed guitar from t[...]

Little Big Fans

For those of you following along, you already know that music is a HUGE part of my life, and that I live for my next concert. For those of you just joining us…You will soon know. I promise. There are a few bands my friend and I follow closely, and today I’m going to tell you about one of my all-time favorites – Little Big Town. Christy and I have been following LBT since before they had more than one song on the radio. Little Big Town consists of four members, Karen Fairchild, Jimmy Westbrook, Kimberly Schlapman[...]

Watercolor Materials I Love

I think I’m speaking for most artists when I say that we are generally pretty picky about what materials we use when we make art. For example, I only use the Winsor Newton brand of  watercolor paint in tubes. I find that it has good consistency and pigment (color), and it goes on smoothly. I do occasionally settle for Grumbacher’s watercolors, but that’s only if I can’t find the color I need in Winsor Newton. As far as paper goes, I prefer cold press watercolor blocks. Cold press paper has a smoother finish than[...]
